From 1950’s Montreal’s Gayety theatre to the Wiggle Room.
Frank Lam & Lily Monroe proudly presents ‘STRIPORAMA’ an hommage to old timey burlesque and Irving Klaw style exploitation films.
In the early 50’s, Lili St-Cyr was the most famous women in Montreal. However, Quebec’s Catholic clergy condemned her act, declaring that whenever she dances “the theater is made to stink with the foul odor of sexual frenzy. St. Cyr was arrested and charged with behavior that was “immoral, obscene and indecent.” She then left Montreal for Hollywood, which eventually led the Gayety to close it’s doors. Inspired after seeing St-Cyr’s performances at the Gayety, french men Alain Bernadin founded the Crazy Horse Saloon in 1951. We are very proud to have Montreal burlesque icon Scarlett James to perform her Lili St-Cyr tribute act.
At the same time in New York City, a certain photographer named Irving Klaw became the Pin-up King due to the huge success of his photography work and news/magazines stand. He was mostly known for his fetish photography, which he was one of the first ever to gain recognition doing so in the 40’s and 50’s. He did countless photos and films with burlesque stars like Tempest Storm, Lili St-Cyr and one of the most photographed Pin-ups at that time, the pin-up queen of the universe, Bettie Page! Her jet black hair, blue eyes and trademark bangs influenced generations on so many artistic and erotic levels. Our co-producer for Striporama, Lily Monroe, is highly influenced and embodies Bettie on a daily basis, we’re excited to present you one of her Bettie Page inspired acts.
We also have a very special guest from Sudbury, Ontario, Starlotte Satine!
Starlotte is one of the most amazing Canadian pin-up models with a unique style and taste for vintage. She is a real crowd pleaser and we could not be happier to announce her Montreal comeback.
